Date: 23-Aug-97 01:42 EDT From: CLUSCO@aol.com Subject: AIRPORT GROUP Hello! We are Jane Schneider and Charles Lusco, of Airport Neighbors Decide, Columbus Ohio. Our group was formed in 1993 to focus on expansion at Port Columbus International Airport. At its height, A.N.D. represented upwards of 10,000 residents. Although the group does not meet regularly now, the members can still be counted on to contact legislators when the need arises. Port Columbus did a Part 150 and an Environmental Assessment in 1993, and in 1994 the city passed Airport Environs Overlay legislation. A.N.D. worked hard to inform local residents about the shortcomings of all of these documents and to alert them to the threats these measures posed--both to their health and to their property. We have continued to focus on the dangers of airport pollution, including noise, and the loss of family homes and the destruction of communities due to airport expansion. We particularly resent the millions in FAA grants that make all this possible--"AIRPORK", we call it. The two of us have served on the board of the National Airport Watch Group, and were recently asked to contribute a report on the environmental effects of aviation in conjunction with a local environmental study. Through N.A.W.G. we are familiar with some of the organizations you represent, though many are new to us. We're looking forward to hearing your ideas about the best ways to bring airport issues to the attention of the public. We would love to continue the discussion via e-mail, phone or snail mail in the days to come. Best wishes, Janie and Charles Airport Neighbors Decide 1169 Manfeld Drive Columbus OH 43227 e-mail: clusco@aol.com Fax: can fax stuff to us if you call first and tell us to plug in the machine Phone: 614/863-4016
