Please retain the two full length runways as in Project Case together with the fuel farm, but consider fewer gates and smaller cargo facilities such as proposed in Alternatives A or B. Make air transportation a serious regional issue. By limiting the gates and cargo facilities, this sends a message to all of Silicon Valley that San Jose does not want to provide 100% of Silicon Valley's air transit capacity. A regionally distributed and balanced approach is the only viable and rational long-term solution beyond 2010. Silicon Valley benefits from SJIA, yet the burden of noise, safety, traffic and pollution is solely San Jose's. All of Silicon Valley must share the burden of air transit, and that means a regional strategy which includes looking seriously at Moffett and other regional solutions. Choosing Project Case at SJIA is only a short-term fix. Beyond 2010, I fear that San Jose will choose to continue to expand SJIA - such as turning Coleman Avenue into a third runway - while Moffett remains unutilized. This hardly seems fair to San Jose. I urge you to not only have a vision for San Jose, but for all of Silicon Valley. Mountain View, Sunnyvale, et al - as beneficiaries of the success of Silicon Valley - need to contribute their fair share to the long-term air transit infrastructure of the South Bay. Please vote for "Alternative A or B, plus full length runways and fuel farm". Voting for Project Case means that San Jose will give up needed leverage to work towards a regional solution. I firmly believe that San Jose must take the lead in forcing the issue to a regional level.
