Breaking News! - Update - April 6, 2005Neighbors, The piecemeal planning of our airport continues. Now, that they've approved the terminal expansion, gate capacity is next on the agenda:
The City of San José is proceeding with the design and development of new terminal facilities at Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport. During the meeting, Airport staff will present the proposed gate management concept. The community is urged to attend, ask questions and provide comment. For more information, please call (408) 501-0979 or visit http://www.sjc.org San José – Reacting to news that America West has scheduled a daily flight from Las Vegas that lands in San José at 1:40 a.m. starting April 2, Councilmember Ken Yeager denounced the action as a “slap in the face” to nearby residents and the spirit of the airport’s curfew. “I hope residents will contact American West to protest this flight,” said Yeager. “America West needs to know that their backdoor maneuver to get around the curfew is against everything San Jose is doing to give people a good night’s sleep during curfew hours.” America West originally scheduled the flight utilizing an Airbus 319 aircraft, which would have violated the City’s curfew. America West then switched to a 50-passenger regional jet (CRJ200,) which generates a Certified Composite Noise Level ranging from 84.4 to 84.7 EPNdB, and is therefore allowed to operate during the curfew period under the curfew ordinance. Yeager acknowledged that although the flight is technically allowed, it violates the spirit of the policy to restrict late-night flights. “I hope America West will do the right thing and re-schedule the flight to land before 11:30 p.m.” Residents are encouraged to contact America West directly and protest the airline’s decision to operate a flight during curfew hours.
